86 F. C. Hibberd 2586 of 1941

This locomotive was ordered by the Ministry Of Supply; it is not known to where it was despatched, but it was returned to F.C.Hibberd and sold as received to the Hamill Brick Company at Eastry in Kent. Here it worked with Hibberd 2306, now MRT fleet no. 53, and it seems likely that at some stage the engine was removed from FH2586 and fitted to FH2306 – hence the Paxman engine now fitted to FH2306. In 1964, the loco was sold to ME Engineering, a London based dealer in narrow gauge equipment.

The loco lingered at the yard until the 19/7/1973 when it was sold to J.M.Hutchings and moved to the Quainton Road preservation site. On 22/4/1974, the loco moved to the Island Narrow Gauge group, based on the Isle of Wight. Problems with planning authorities meant this scheme did not succeed, and the loco subsequently passed to the Fido group based at the Great Bush Railway, Hadlow Down, East Sussex, 10/1/1976. Around 1988, the loco moved to the Leadhills & Wanlockhead Light Railway in Scotland. It returned to England on 10/9/1994, to the Leighton Buzzard Light Railway.

On 3/7/2005, the loco moved to the Bradford home of a MRT member, who subsequently donated it to the MRT. It arrived at Apedale on 7/6/2008.

For the 2014 WWI event at apedale, the loco was aesthetically restored as a wartime Motor Rail and placed in a shell hole on display.
