By Public Transport…

Chesterton Village is served by bus routes 4 and 4A from Hanley Bus Station. These are operated by First Bus, www.firstbus.co.uk/potteries.

Stoke-on-Trent Station is well served by trains from all parts, including Avanti West Coast trains from London Euston, Cross Country Trains from Birmingham and elsewhere. There is no direct bus route from Stoke station to Chesterton; it is recommended that one catches a (frequent) bus to Hanley from outside Stoke Station (turn left to the bus stop in about 50 yards after exiting the station from Platform 1), and from Hanley, take the 4 or 4A as above from Hanley Bus Station. Bus 4 goes to Waterhayes via Chesterton. Bus 4A goes from Hanley to Kidsgrove, also via Chesterton.

An alternative route by train is to alight at Kidsgrove, which is served by East Midlands Railway (Derby – Crewe) and Northern trains from Manchester to Stoke. Bus 4A goes to Chesterton, although it does not directly serve Kidsgrove station (we suggest using the First Bus journey planner for details).

One should alight in Chesterton Village at either the Broadmeadow Court stop or Chesterton Library stop on London Road, and then proceed as follows:-

  • Walk along London Road towards the roundabout at the start of Loomer Road.
  • Follow Loomer road to the end, and follow the road to the right into the country park
  • Keep going straight ahead until you see car park signs, just by the Apedale Heritage Centre

It is about a fifteen-minute walk from Chesterton Village.

On weekdays only, there is an infrequent bus route 35 from Newcastle-under-Lyme bus station which serves Loomer Road, and operates to a point significantly closer than the 4/4A routes described above.
