We are pleased to report that the Smoke without Fire event this weekend will now host two very different visiting locos. The first is a Wingrove & Rogers battery loco, which will visit us from its usual home at a private railway in the North West.Secondly, we are pleased to welcome Motor Rail diesel loco number 5213 of 1930. Originally built with a Dorman 4 MRX engine, this loco was supplied new to “Petrol locomotive hirers”, a subsidiary of Motor Rail. Later, it was sold to French Kier construction, who re-engined the loco with a Dorman 2RMB. KIer sold the loco to Elmet industrial tractors in the early 70s, who returned the loco to service and hired it to the Yorkshire Water Authority. In 1975 it was seen working for Yorkshire Water on river bank works at the then soon to be demolished Ouse Bridge (Hull and Barnsley Railway swing bridge , near Drax). It was then bought for preservation, but has rarely been in the public eye. For the first time in 45 years, MR5213 will be leaving the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway to visit Apedale.
