This weekend has seen a good turn-out of volunteers, and that’s allowed progress on several areas. The ballast wagons have had an outing, dropping ballast to support rectifying a dipped joint on the mainline. We then moved on to lift & tamp the station platform area where several sleepers were changed a few weeks ago.
Attention then switched to the field; ground conditions have slowed progress on that project recently. However, someone had the bright idea of using steel strips to both provide guidance and to spread the weight of loads, and hence reduce ground pressure. We’ve christened this a “railway”. I wonder if it will catch on? A couple of locos were in use shuttling loads from a loading point down to the head of steel, and really good progress was made. Unfortunately, the orange Motor Rail had to be stood down, having developed a case of Schrödinger’s Clutch; whether the clutch was engaged or disengaged seem to entirely depend on the view point of the observer.
