We are pleased to announce that the Moseley Railway Trust has published a major new book. This substantial work, several years in the making, tells the story of the Kerr, Stuart “Joffre” class locomotives. These engines were built in support of the First World War effort, using a Decauville design. In the 1970s, five of these locos were repatriated to the UK from a quarry in France. One went straight to the West Lancashire Light Railway, where it remains. The other four ended up dotted around the Gloddfa Ganol site in Wales. When that collection was dispersed, one Joffre – number 3014 – was restored and operated at Apedale. It is currently coming towards the end of an overhaul, and we will be announcing plans for its return in due course. The book is available online here. It is also available from our shop at Apedale. We are also happy to discuss trade terms with retailers.
