Two “new” steam locos have recently arrived at the Apedale site. They are Orenstein & Koppel 5662, and Avonside 2066 “Ogwen”. “Ogwen” is a return visitor, having previously been with us in 2021 in its previous guise of “Durham”. To ensure that our crews can operate the locos safely and efficiently, a training session has been run on the the O&K and Ogwen. This meant that we had three locos in steam – the Hudswell hauling service trains plus the two training locos. A shed shunt was also carried out; the objective of this was to extract the out-of-ticket “Joffre” ready for display at Kerr, Stuart day on August 21. So, with just a little forward planning, we managed a line of five locos from five different builders and a combined age of 517 years.
