Smoke Without Fire

Our next event will be the “Smoke without Fire” weekend, October 3 & 4. Nearly wrote “diesel event”, but a look at the roster suggests that battery and petrol-powered locos feature almost as heavily as the Hornsby-Ackroyd heavy oil colleagues. The event will run from 1130 to 1600 on each day, and the loco roster is at the end of this post. Standard fares will be charged, and day rover tickets are available. Shed tours will be on offer to ticket holders. Two very important things:1:- The situation with the pandemic seems to be changing almost daily at the moment. Whilst it is our intent to run this event at the time of writing, the safety of our volunteers and the public is paramount. Please check back here before traveling to Apedale just in case.2:- Many of the locos rostered are well past their retirement age, and were hoping to spend the time in the shed reading the paper. So, there is every chance that mechanical issues may rear their ugly head. Should that happen, please be patient.
Finally, we hope to be able to display a very special new exhibit. This is an ex-British Railways diesel loco which has never been on public display before; we will announce details of this loco later this week. If you think you already know its identity, please don’t comment!

The roster is as follows (Updated 21 Sept with changes to locos allocated to 1300 Saturday, and 1300 & 1530 trains on Sunday).
