Thanks, Mel!

In between the insanity which is Halloween Scary Trains at Apedale, a little bit of history was made. One of our longest serving drivers, Mel, drove his last passenger train on Sunday. Mel has been a Trust member since it wasn’t a Trust, and was a group of like-minded individuals who ran the railway at Cheadle School; the first photo shows him driving a Hibberd past the Gym (complete with regularly re-painted wall). However, he’s decided it’s time to hang up his driver’s key, although he will still be heavily involved with other duties at Apedale (we hope!).
Time catches up with all of us, and this shows the importance of recruiting new volunteers – to become the “Mel of the Future”. We’re always interested in talking to new recruits, and one of the advantages of a small operation is that progress through the training and assessment process can be rapid for the right people.
