Track maintenance

As we aren’t running trains this weekend or next (next trains are October 29 & 30 for Halloween), the opportunity has been taken for some serious track maintenance. A 50-yard stretch of the main line had been the cause of a little concern for a while, so the team set out to sort the various issues. Seven sleepers were changed, the alignment was corrected. The ballast train then deposited several tonnes of ballast, and then the whole area kango-tamped to achieve a good vertical alignment (“top” as it’s known). Hopefully, this will sort the area for a good few years now with just normal maintenance.
