And then two weeks later (August 2 & 3) is one of the highlights of our year – the Military Weekend. Known as Full Steam For Forces, the railway will be running two steam locos – the War Office Hunslet, and the Kerr, Stuart “Tattoo”. We’ll be demonstrating our legendary collection of military railway equipment, and this will incluse a rare opportunity to travel behind the “Tin Turtle” locomotives. Such locos will work the first (1100) and last (1600) train each day. Ever wondered what a Tin Turtle is? There’s only one way to find out. The replica WW1 trench will be open for visitors, and we will have various living history people around the site. Full details, fares etc are here
