Volunteering teamwork at its best!

During the last week, we hosted a group from AtkinsRéalis Central Rail Systems Alliance (who are based in Crewe). We had set them a pretty tough challenge. The problem was that the existing field railway crossing was in an awkward place now that the museum building is taking shape. Put simply, the extant line of the track was too close to the corner of the building, and this meant that the sightlines for both rail drivers and pedestrian users of the crossing were very poor. The solution was to remove a set of points, re-align the railway, insert a new set of points and rebuild the road crossing. The points will allow access to one of the tracks in the museum in due course. If that sounds like a pretty complex task, it’s because it was just that. The team from AtkinsRéalis rose to the task; testament to the job done was that our regular weekend volunteers didn’t notice anything had changed until it was pointed out that the railway had been moved about two feet north!

So, a massive thank you to AtkinsRéalis – and we hope to see you again soon!
