Water Cranes and Steam Boilers

A very busy and productive day at Apedale saw two major projects make significant strides towards the completion. The long-running Water Tower/Water Crane project finally saw the water crane erected – no small undertaking, but very careful work with the crane saw everything in place with no issues or concerns.

Secondly, Hudswell Clarke 1238’s boiler had a fire lit in for the first time with its new tubes; no pressures valves fitted so no pressure – just warming through, burning off debris and getting everything nicely seasoned. The lovely new firehole doors are a joy to behold and to work with – and much less risk of burns than the previous version! There’s still a good way to go, but the end is now firmly in sight.
