King George V Carriage

This Carriage is a replica of one of several wooden framed manriders used in the First World War built in 2016 for the 2nd Tracks to the Trenches event. The idea to build this was formed upon someone finding a photograph of King George V riding on one being propelled by a 20hp Petrol simplex such as MR1111 on a visit to the trenches. This vehicle was reconstructed from photographs on a steel chassis and is frequently used in the trench area during events.

The vehicle has been rebuilt to museum standards, and therefore does not comply with the standards required of vehicles in front-line passenger operation. Also the wheels of this vehicle are not entirely round, giving it a “bone-shaker” ride.
