93 ‘Prometheus’ Clayton B4299 of 1998

This replace locomotive No. 71 at the National Grid’s cable tunnels at Woodhead. Following changes in the operation at Woodhead, the locomotive was deemed surplus to requirements by National Grid and was donated to the MRT, arriving at Apedale on 13/11/13. It is one of the youngest locomotives in preservation, and one of very few to arrive at Apedale from industry which have not required a complete restoration. This locomotive uses a thyristor to control speed and has an overload cut out to prevent motor damage when stalled. It did possess an electromagnetic dead man’s brake, however, due to the risk of leaving the loco stranded with a flat battery and the brakes locked on, this has been removed and stored, the loco can be readily stopped and parked on the mechanical hand brake.
