The no longer missing link

A very busy weekend at Apedale saw history made on several fronts. One of those was the final closure of the Field Railway Missing Link, allowing trains to fully circumnavigate the Event Field for the first time. Amongst other things, this will give more interesting operations on event days, and will also simplify access to both the WW1 Trench Tramway and to the Aurora South shed. The main activity recently has been the moving of fill material to build-up the side of the embankment on which the railway stands. – the levels of the Missing Link range from shallow cutting to embankment, all of which have had to be cut or made up. The new railway isn’t fully finished – for example, the Golden Spike hasn’t been hammered in – but the end is now close.
