August Events

We’ve noticed a distinct absence of summer recently. But the forecast is looking better, and we have three great events for August at Apedale – hopefully something to suit everybody.

August 12 & 13 will see the return of the Bears – our ever-popular Teddy Bear Outing. Kids with furry friends travel for free, and there’s a simple quiz to keep them entertained. And the train will be hauled by a steam engine from a Welsh Slate quarry. Details are here.

August 26 & 27 is Leafers at t’Pit. This is an event for Land Rover enthusiasts. Famous for being one of the friendliest events on the circuit, anyone with a leaf-spring Land Rover is welcome to attend and exhibit. If you want to camp overnight, please get in touch beforehand – won’t be a problem, but we need to make sure there’s space. If you have a Land Rover Discovery, probably best to use the normal car parks. If you just want to come along and admire these workhorses of the British off-road world, all are welcome and there’s no charge to enter the display area.

Continuing the road vehicles theme, August 28th is Classic Cars Day. This year, we have a road run in addition to the on-site display. There are still a few vacancies on the road run (and for on-site display). If you are interested in bringing your classic, then visit here for the entry forms.

Again, visitors are most welcome to to come along and admire the polished chrome and buffed leather, and there’s no charge to enter the site.

As if this wasn’t enough, we’ll be running steam trains from 1130 until 4pm, using the Hunslet steam loco “303”. Just back from its annual exam, this is one of the celebrities of the steam fleet.

On all days, there’s no need to book in advance – just turn up and enjoy. We have made a booking for sunny days, but packing a mac might be prudent.
